A Better Than Average Princess Story

Just Your Average Princess by Kristina Springer Photo Provided by: Farrar Straus Giroux

"Just Your Average Princess" by Kristina Springer is an entertaining read for preteen and teenage girls. At 197 pages, it's not too long and, in my opinion, it's well written.

The novel is about Jamie, a pretty teenage girl living in the small town of Average, Illinois. She works at her family's pumpkin patch and dreams of becoming Pumpkin Princess. Suddenly everything changes when her cousin, Milan Woods, comes to live with Jamie and her family. Milan gets a job at the pumpkin patch and quickly becomes popular with the people of Average. Jamie feels pushed aside by her parents, Milan, and everyone except her for best friends, Sara and Dilly. From the beginning, Jamie has tried hard to be nice to Milan, but Milan treats her poorly. Now it's up to Jamie, Sara, and Dilly to get everything back to normal. But can they, before it's too late? In the end, Jamie discovers that you can't always get everything that you want. Once she learns this lesson a friendship with Milan begins to develop.

I would recommend this book to girls ages 12 and up because it has a very small amount of mature language and content.
